Counter Parts Sales Representative

Job Overview

The Counter Parts Sales Representative position is an inside sales position working with our customers on the phone & in person at our branch parts showroom. Through your customer interaction, you will seek to understand customers' needs and identify sales opportunities. You will also be answering potential customers' questions and providing additional information.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists all customers in selecting required parts in a friendly, professional and efficient manner.
  • Informs customers of companion part requirements and specials and ensures that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
  • Answers phone calls, providing price quotes and other information.
  • Provides high level of service to internal and external customers.
  • Notifies the customer when special ordered parts have been received.
  • Follows up on back-ordered parts.
  • Assists outside sales representatives with their orders.
  • Receives payment from retail customers or obtains credit authorization.
  • Ensures that all charge sales are signed by the customer.
  • Ensures that all customers receive their copy of the invoice.
  • Keeps orderly records of all invoices and special-order parts.
  • Keeps front and rear counter areas clean and uncluttered.
  • Keeps current on new products and product updates.
  • Maintains professional appearance.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

The Counter Parts Sales Representative sells parts to all customers, over the counter, or on the phone.

Skills, Training, and Education Requirements and Preferences

The Counter Parts Sales Representative position requires a number of basic skill and conditions, including:

  • A high school degree or equivalent experience.
  • An ability to recognize opportunities for process and operational improvement.
  • Basic PC skills
  • Basic Math skills
  • Relationship management skills to effectively interface with a wide variety of customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise in sales techniques, add on sales, closing, and negotiating skills.
  • Time management skills & ability to multi-task.
  • Technical aptitude and knowledge of truck parts.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with value-added selling.
  • Competitive, entrepreneurial spirit, and driven to succeed.
  • Heavy-duty drive train experience and/or Fluid Power certification is a plus (although not required)


Physical Requirements

The physical demands and work environment require that the employee be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. While performing the duties of this job:

  • The employee will primarily be walking or standing
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 75 lbs unaided
  • The employee must be able to work a 40 hour work week with overtime that may be required at times.
  • The employee must have the ability to work in a dusty environment
